Job Description: Estimator
Job Objective:
The Estimator is responsible for managing tenders from start to finalization. This role involves acknowledging tenders, reviewing documents for missing scope, obtaining quotes from subcontractors, setting up the job for pricing, and managing various aspects of the tender process, including site visits, documentation, and clarifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Acknowledge the tender and book the tender documents.
Review tender documents for missing scope.
Send inquiries to subcontractors for quotation and ensure a quick response.
Select suitable subcontractors based on workload and location.
Input the Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and prepare the job for pricing.
Contact key supply chain contractors to discuss the project and address technical issues.
Perform bulk measurements checks and identify any missing scope in the BOQ.
Visit the site and provide a summary report on access, egress, site establishment, and project logistics.
Distribute addendum information to relevant subcontractors.
Raise tender queries to consultants when necessary.
Compile the prelims book with input from the production team on staffing levels.
Analyze quotations and prepare a summary report of all received quotations.
Evaluate health and safety (H&S) obligations and ensure the job is priced accordingly.
Review the tender with the Operations Manager.
Produce a list of tender clarifications for submission.
Finalize the price and submit the tender on time.
Skills:
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Architecture, or an Advanced Diploma/Diploma/Certificate in Quantity Surveying, Building, or equivalent technical field.
Minimum 5 to 8 years of experience in estimating, with familiarity in civil and interior fit-out projects or architectural finishes.
Good understanding of construction techniques and methodology/sequence of works.
Managerial experience, including the ability to delegate work to the measurement team and manage others assigned to the bid (Planner/Projects Manager) for input.
Key Skills:
Good command of English, both written and spoken.
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
Efficient time management skills.
Computer literate, with proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Projects, and MS Office.
Strong communication skills and a methodical approach to working logically through the tender process.
