Background:
UN Women, guided by the principles of equality enshrined in the United Nations Charter, is dedicated to eliminating discrimination against women and girls, empowering women, and achieving gender equality in all facets of development, human rights, humanitarian action, and peace and security.
The UN Women Liaison Office (LO) for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), located in Abu Dhabi, focuses on strengthening partnerships, mobilizing resources, and raising awareness to advance UN Women’s priorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), GCC countries, and beyond. As the first of its kind in the GCC, the office concentrates on the following priorities:
1. Enhancing coordination across sectors to advance UN Women's mandate in the UAE and GCC countries.
2. Strengthening partnerships to promote Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality and advancing the women, peace, and security agenda.
3. Driving progress on women’s economic empowerment in the UAE and GCC.
In 2017, UN Women launched the Unstereotype Alliance (UA), a global industry alliance aimed at eradicating harmful gender-based stereotypes in media and advertising content. The UN Women LO for the GCC is seeking a program intern to support the UAE's efforts in implementing monthly meetings, UA donor and membership enrollment, and assisting with the Unstereotype Alliance National Action Plan for the UAE.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide administrative support to the GCC LO Team, including but not limited to:
- Assisting in preparations for GCC LO activities and events, such as meetings and workshops, including logistical coordination.
- Supporting the partnerships specialist in scheduling meetings with Unstereotype Alliance clients, monitoring membership status, progress, and contributions.
- Consolidating various reports from partners related to the UA program.
- Supporting the GCC LO team in Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) events, including dispatching online invitations, logistics notes, and agenda preparation.
2. Assist the Communications Team in their day-to-day activities, which may include:
- Managing social media accounts and engaging with the audience.
- Compiling information for content development and reporting.
- Editing and revising reports, briefs, and other documents for accuracy and clarity.
- Drafting official correspondence in both Arabic and English languages.
3. Provide support in additional tasks and projects assigned by the GCC LO, as required.

Required Skills and Experience:
Education:
- University studies in gender studies, human rights, international relations, or business management.
Experience:
- Enrolled in a postgraduate degree program or in the final academic year of a first university degree program, or enrolled in a mandatory national service program that includes internships, or recently graduated with a university degree.
Language:
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English.
- Working knowledge of another UN language and/or Arabic is an advantage.
Remuneration:
- Interns not receiving financial support from other sources will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs during the internship.
