Job Description

Job Title: Lead Mitigation Researcher

Project Summary:
The Middle East and North Africa Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Services (MENA MELS) Activity, commissioned by USAID, aims to provide technical support for monitoring, evaluation, and learning in the Middle East Bureau, its field missions, operating units, and implementing partners. The project involves developing monitoring systems, conducting evaluations, assessments, and research, and building MEL capacity and training. A key component of this initiative is to address lead exposure and lead poisoning, an emerging priority for USAID. The Lead Mitigation Researcher will play a crucial role in developing a regional and country-level profile of lead prevalence and mitigation activities.

Position Summary:
The Lead Mitigation Researcher for Jordan will provide essential insights and recommendations on lead exposure and mitigation efforts within the country. The role includes conducting a desk review of relevant literature, policies, and data on lead exposure and mitigation strategies, as well as performing key informant interviews with various stakeholders to identify gaps, opportunities, and effective interventions. The research period is between September and November 2024, approximately 25 days.

Responsibilities:

- Lead Exposure Identification:
- Identify primary sources of lead exposure in Jordan.

- Research Design:
- Contribute to the design of qualitative research tools.

- Needs Assessment:
- Explain specific needs for preventing and responding to lead exposure in Jordan.

- Intervention Identification:
- Identify successful or promising interventions, campaigns, or programs for lead exposure prevention and management in Jordan.

- Stakeholder Mapping:
- Identify key stakeholders in Jordan involved in lead exposure assessment and mitigation, including government, civil society, and private sector actors.

- Qualitative Research:
- Conduct qualitative research, including in-person or remote interviews with key stakeholders.

- Findings Evaluation:
- Contribute to the evaluation and interpretation of research findings and develop programming recommendations for USAID.

- Reporting:
- Develop PowerPoint presentations and write short summary documents for the assigned country.

Qualifications:

- Education:
- Master’s degree in public health, medicine, social research, or a related field required.

- Experience:
- Minimum of eight years of experience in research and policy analysis related to public health and advocacy campaigns in Jordan.
- Experience researching or working on lead prevalence and mitigation activities preferred.

- Knowledge:
- Knowledge of existing policies and regulations within Jordan.
- Strong understanding of public health issues.

- Skills:
- Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods.
- Proficiency in Arabic and English.
- Ability to travel within Jordan if necessary.
