Job Description
Position: Media Specialist Consultant
Overview:
The Media Specialist Consultant will work under the guidance of the Senior Communications Manager in the Communications Division to enhance the Agency’s media and social media outreach strategy. The focus will be on reinforcing the Agency’s regional position, managing crisis communications, and combating disinformation. This role involves analyzing media trends, developing content strategies, and supporting donor visibility efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strategy Development:
- Support the development and implementation of media and social media outreach strategies, emphasizing crisis communications, humanitarian response, and disinformation.
- Supervise the creation of media and social media content, including multimedia materials and communication plans.
- Content Creation and Supervision:
- Guide the production of engaging audio-visual content such as videos, infographics, and data visualizations, working with graphic designers, multimedia specialists, and external providers.
- Ensure content aligns with key messaging and effectively engages target audiences.
- Monitoring and Analysis:
- Monitor and analyze media and social media trends to identify key narratives and areas for improvement.
- Use tracking tools to assess challenges, opportunities, and map media outlets for targeted strategies.
- Media Relations:
- Manage media relations, respond to queries, and share key information with international media.
- Coordinate media outreach efforts, including arranging interviews and supporting spokespersons.
- Risk Management:
- Develop and implement media and social media engagement plans, risk management activities, and damage control strategies.
- Update key messages and communication documents such as media lines, Q&A, talking points, and social media narratives.
- Donor Visibility:
- Collaborate with the Social Media Officer to develop donor visibility strategies in key markets.
- Event Support:
- Assist in implementing communications plans for UN Days, missions, events, and high-level meetings.
- Additional Duties:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Educational Background:
- Master’s degree in communications, international affairs, social sciences, journalism, or a related discipline.
- Experience:
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience, including a minimum of two continuous years of international experience outside UNRWA and the candidate’s home country.
- Proven experience in content creation for social media.
- Experience with audience-centric needs analysis and delivery is desirable.
- Experience with UNRWA’s fields of operations and in the UN Common System is desirable.
- Skills:
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively.
- Proficiency in analyzing data and translating insights into actionable strategies.
- Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
- Experience in coordinating the work of others and managing multiple tasks.
