Job Description
Job Title: GL Accountant
Job Summary and Purpose
The GL Accountant will plan, coordinate, supervise, and control the efficient maintenance of the General Ledger function, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting policies and procedures of the company. This role involves overseeing GL activities, month-end and year-end accounting procedures, account reconciliations, and liaising with auditors.
Key Accountabilities
Accounting:
1. General Ledger Management:
- Handle and oversee all GL-related activities for QGTC and subsidiary companies, ensuring compliance with company-approved policies and procedures.
- Supervise month-end and year-end accounting procedures, including preparation of journal entries for the General Ledger function.
2. Reconciliation and Analysis:
- Monitor and control monthly and quarterly reconciliations of accounts against respective ledgers, follow up on and clear outstanding items.
- Review, analyze, and reconcile GL accounts to ensure accurate cost capture, proper provisions, and accurate accrual reversals.
3. Accruals and Provisions:
- Book accruals and provisions as per company policy, and provide detailed reconciliation of accrued income.
4. Transaction Management:
- Reconcile and accurately post applicable financial transactions related to the General Ledger.
- Maintain fixed deposit schedules and pass monthly accrual entries on interest due.
- Maintain schedules for all accrued expenses in respective companies.
5. Bank Reconciliation:
- Prepare and review all bank account reconciliations, pass bank entries, and ensure end balances tally with bank statements.
6. Audit and Compliance:
- Deal with internal and external auditors, preparing audit schedules and requirements.
- Review and analyze GL expenses, ensuring accruals are reversed for service entries passed.
7. Record Keeping:
- Maintain accounting records for special accounts, organize activities, and set priorities to meet agreed timelines.
People Management:
8. Team Management:
- Manage direct team, overseeing performance management, recruitment, training, and development to ensure high levels of engagement and competence in coordination with the Head of General Ledger.

9. SHEQ Compliance:
- Adhere to all relevant SHEQ policies, procedures, instructions, and controls to ensure Nakilat provides safe, world-class, secure, and environmentally responsible services.

10. Adherence to Policies:
- Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, and procedures to ensure work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.

11. Additional Duties:
- Carry out any other duties as directed by the Head of General Accounting.
Desired Candidate Profile
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
Experience:
- 3 - 5 years of related experience in a similar position, preferably within the same industry.
Job Specific Skills:
- Knowledge of accounting and financial principles and tools (International Financial Reporting Standards, GAAP, etc.).
- Familiarity with SAP-related modules.
