Job Opportunity: Planning Supervisor

Job Purpose:
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Planning Supervisor to join our team. The role involves planning and supervising vessel, yard, examination, and CFS planning, considering both commercial and operational factors. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with safety and discipline standards while optimizing terminal activities.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Co-ordinate with the planning department to define strategies and procedures for vessel, yard, and examination planning.
2. Provide inputs to ascertain resource requirements, including operations employees during shifts and the number of equipment needed.
3. Ensure effective coordination with Agent Maritime for the receipt of vessel planning data (EDI / Baplie) for incoming vessels.
4. Analyze existing yard locations before assigning stowage locations to containers in the vessel.
5. Review and approve the stowage plan prepared by the vessel planner, ensuring adherence to protocols for stowage approvals.
6. Co-ordinate with vessel and line agents to resolve discrepancies in the case of out-of-list containers or those not listed in the bay plan.
7. Ascertain reasons for deviations during stowage operations and restore protocols.
8. Monitor and modify the vessel work program based on planned and real-time information, such as breakdowns.
9. Ensure the yard plan is completed well in advance before the vessel berths.
10. Update all vessel and yard particulars in real-time into the system.
11. Define norms for sequencing crane operations and vessel planning under different situations.
12. Identify potential clashes in the crane program and resolve them in coordination with the vessel planner and vessel operations supervisor.
13. Effectively manage yard planning for discharging and loading of containers, movement of containers within the terminal, and delivery and receiving of containers from the gate.
14. Ensure stacking principles are followed in assigning locations to containers.
15. Verify yard inventory to maintain accuracy of information.
16. Identify and address missing containers on time.
17. Prepare accurate and timely cargo control functions/activities, including input, output, and vessel summaries for invoicing.
18. Analyze critical parameters such as operations productivity, key reasons for delay, vessel turnaround time, and truck turnaround time.
19. Identify planners with training needs and communicate the same to the planning manager.
20. Liaise with vessel and line agents for relevant information.
21. Propose areas for operational improvement, system automation, and up-gradation.
22. Ensure effective inter-departmental communication for vessel and yard operations.
23. Define prime routing and expert decking norms into the system.
24. Assist in implementing the prime routing and expert decking function.
25. Deal with exceptions that occur in the yard/system and resolve them effectively.
26. Perform periodic scheduled performance reviews with reporting personnel.
27. Implement and monitor the full integration and usage of expert decking and prime routing modules.
28. Evaluate each operational process periodically and propose changes for safety and efficiency improvements.
29. Ensure smart stacking and dynamic yard utilization.
30. Monitor cargo flow and communicate with liners to improve turnover and clear backlogs.
31. Implement and monitor Yard strategy, fine-tune to manage the surge and slack.
32. Comply with guidelines from the direct manager and ensure implementation.
33. Optimize quay and yard operations to achieve set KPIs.
34. Responsible for safety and discipline in the work area.
35. Ensure compliance with Fatal Risk Standards, Safe Work Practices, and HSE policy.
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
- Experience in container terminal operations: 5 - 7 years.
- Supervisory role experience: 3 - 4 years.
- Understanding of vessel characteristics/dimensions and factors impacting vessel stability.
- Sound knowledge of container trade operations.
- Work experience in a container terminal operating system.
- Education: Diploma/Graduate, preferably in Marine Studies.
- Excellent computer operating skills.
