Food Safety Coordinator

The Food Safety Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring that all food handling, preparation, and storage processes comply with regulatory standards and internal policies to maintain high levels of food safety and quality. This position involves overseeing food safety procedures, conducting inspections, training staff, and implementing corrective actions as necessary.

Responsibilities:

- Policy Development and Implementation:
- Develop, implement, and maintain food safety policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.

- Inspections and Compliance:
- Conduct regular inspections of food preparation areas, storage facilities, and equipment to ensure compliance with sanitation and hygiene standards.
- Monitor and document temperature controls for food storage and transportation.

- Training and Education:
- Coordinate and conduct training sessions for kitchen staff on proper food handling techniques, sanitation practices, and allergen awareness.

- Incident Investigation and Corrective Actions:
- Investigate food safety incidents or complaints, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

- Supplier Collaboration:
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure the quality and safety of incoming food products and ingredients.

- Documentation and Record-Keeping:
- Maintain records of food safety inspections, training sessions, and corrective actions taken and manage FoodWatch Account.

- Regulatory Compliance and Communication:
- Stay updated on industry trends, new regulations, and best practices in food safety.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for health inspectors and regulatory agencies during inspections and audits.
- Communicate effectively with management and staff regarding food safety issues, updates, and training requirements.

Qualifications:

- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, microbiology, public health, or related field.
- Certification in food safety (e.g., ServSafe Manager, HACCP) is preferred.

- Experience:
- Previous experience in a food service or manufacturing environment, with at least 2-3 years of experience in food safety or quality assurance roles.
- Experience as a Food Safety Coordinator: 3 years (Required).

- Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations (FDA, USDA, etc.) and industry standards.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and influence others.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and experience with food safety management systems/software is a plus.
