Job Description

Responsibilities:

1. Safe Operation of Heavy Vehicles: Operate heavy vehicles such as trucks, tractor-trailers, or buses in a safe and responsible manner, adhering to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies.

2. Cargo Transport: Transport goods, materials, or equipment to designated locations, ensuring the secure loading, transport, and unloading of cargo while maintaining proper balance and weight distribution.

3. Route Planning: Plan and select the most efficient routes to reach destinations, considering factors such as traffic conditions, road restrictions, and delivery schedules, to ensure timely arrivals and minimize fuel consumption.

4. Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections and maintenance checks on the heavy vehicle, including checking fluid levels, tire pressure, brakes, lights, and overall mechanical condition, and report any issues or defects to the appropriate personnel.

5. Cargo Documentation: Maintain accurate records of cargo transported, including manifests, bills of lading, and delivery receipts, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company procedures.

6. Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards for the operation of heavy vehicles, including proper securing of cargo, use of safety equipment, and adherence to weight limits and load restrictions.

7. Communication: Communicate effectively with dispatchers, supervisors, and other team members to coordinate transportation activities, provide updates on delivery status or any issues encountered, and ensure effective teamwork and collaboration.

8. Customer Service: Provide courteous and professional service to customers, suppliers, or recipients of cargo, including assisting with loading and unloading, addressing inquiries or concerns, and representing the company in a positive manner.

9. Emergency Response: Respond calmly and responsibly to emergencies or incidents encountered during transportation, such as accidents, breakdowns, or hazardous road conditions, taking appropriate action to ensure the safety of oneself and others.

Skills:

1. Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL): Possess a valid CDL appropriate for the type of heavy vehicle being operated, along with any additional endorsements required for specific types of cargo or driving conditions.

2. Safe Driving Skills: Demonstrate excellent driving skills, including knowledge of defensive driving techniques, vehicle control, and maneuvering in various traffic and weather conditions, to ensure the safety of oneself and others on the road.

3. Mechanical Aptitude: Basic understanding of the mechanical components and systems of heavy vehicles, including engines, brakes, transmissions, and steering, to perform routine maintenance checks and identify potential issues or defects.

4. Navigation Skills: Familiarity with GPS navigation systems or maps to plan routes, navigate efficiently, and locate delivery or pickup locations, ensuring on-time arrivals and minimizing unnecessary delays or detours.

5. Attention to Detail: Pay attention to detail in all aspects of the job, including vehicle inspections, cargo handling, documentation, and compliance with regulatory requirements, to maintain high standards of safety, accuracy, and professionalism.

6. Physical Stamina: Possess the physical strength, endurance, and dexterity required to operate heavy vehicles safely for extended periods, including loading and unloading cargo, securing loads, and performing other physical tasks as needed.

7. Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and address potential challenges or obstacles encountered during transportation, such as traffic congestion, route detours, or mechanical issues, using sound judgment and effective problem-solving techniques.

8. Communication Skills: Effective verbal communication skills to interact with dispatchers, customers, coworkers, and other road users, as well as the ability to follow written instructions, read maps, and maintain accurate records.
