Roles & Responsibilities

Wood is currently looking for a Lead Civil Engineer to strengthen our team in Dubai, UAE.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum BSc/BEng level degree in Civil Engineering, with extensive experience.

Minimum Experience:
- 18+ years of relevant experience in the oil & gas industry.

Role-Specific Skills:
- Considerable experience on construction sites - green and brown.
- Knowledge of operations and maintenance practices is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Basic understanding of project management control processes for management of change, cost and schedule estimating and monitoring.
- Fluent in English, written and spoken.
- Site experience in basic design requirements, fabrication, estimation, installation, and all site activities related to all Civil/Structural works for construction of large-scale building projects.
- Familiar with all the Civil/Structural engineering methodologies as well as the corresponding equipment, materials, consumables, tools, and manpower allocations related to Civil/Structural works for building projects.
- Well-versed in interpreting and executing Civil/Structural related drawings with strong leadership skills.
- Periodic visits to the site.
- Consultation with the Owner/Client.
- Interpretation of plans and specifications.
- Checking working drawings and data.
- Processing & certification of contractor's payment estimates.
- Preparation of amendments to contractor's contract.
- Final inspection of the project.
- Preparation of as-built drawings.
- Making expert assessments of selected sites for construction, evaluating the structural, environmental, and commercial feasibility of future projects.
- Following this assessment process, being responsible for creating detailed drawings, plans, and schedules and estimating the cost of the construction and engineering work required.
- Be in charge of finalizing construction plans and obtaining final approval from the clients.
- In charge of making sure that all the construction activities meet quality standards and comply with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Regularly need to spend time keeping up to date on the latest trends and developments within the construction industry, reading about newly enacted legislation and gathering information on new tools and techniques.
- Lead teams of other engineers, perhaps from other organizations or firms.
- Compile, check, and approve reports.
- Review and approve project drawings.
- Use computer-aided design (CAD) packages for designing projects.
- Undertake complex and repetitive calculations.
- Schedule material and equipment purchases and delivery.
- Attend public meetings to discuss projects, especially in a senior role.
- Adopt all relevant requirements around issues such as building permits, environmental regulations, sanitary design, good manufacturing practices, and safety on all work assignments.
- Ensure that a project runs smoothly and that the structure is completed on time and within budget.
- Correct any project deficiencies that affect production, quality, and safety requirements before final evaluation and project reviews.
